When you stay on a ward, your food will be provided by the hospital. You’ll be visited by a member of staff who will give you a menu of food to choose from for breakfast, lunch and dinner, depending on how long you’re staying with us for. If you have any dietary requirements, please chat to the member of staff about these and we can accommodate any needs you may have, or you can ask for a member of the Catering team to come and see you.

There are meal times throughout the day, but if you are hungry and have missed a meal time don’t hesitate to chat to a member of staff about what food is available from the all-day menu and they can help make sure you get something to eat.

If you’re visiting the Emergency Department, there are a number of vending machines nearby serving drinks, snacks and cold food.

The Parkside Restaurant is near the Blue lifts on B Floor of the Western Park acute site.

It’s open from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 6pm on Saturday, Sunday and Bank holidays.

Breakfast is served until 11.30am. After that time the menu offers a wide range of affordable hot and cold sit-down or takeaway meals, snacks and drinks to visitors and our staff. There’s also a great value children’s menu.

We recently introduced a budget-friendly £1.50 Meal of the Day – a different tasty main course every day including weekends.

Vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free options are available and allergy information is displayed. If you are unsure please ask a member of the restaurant staff.

Inpatient food menus

Many of the wards have their own kitchens for you to re-heat your own food if preferred. Please check your ward information to find out more. If you are a breastfeeding or pregnant mum, we can offer some breakfast too.

If you have been in hospital for four days or more, we can offer you a voucher for 20% off the hot food counter in the canteen. Please ask a nurse if you have not been offered a voucher.

A Costa Coffee, WHSmith’s and the Friends of the Children’s Hospital shop can be found in the hospital main entrance. There are other takeaways and coffee shops in the nearby area including a supermarket on Glossop Road, connected to the Q- park Carpark.
