Director of Nursing announced as panellist on Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel

Sally Shearer has been appointed as a panellist on the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel. She will serve from 1 July 2022 to 14 November 2025.

Sally Shearer, Director of Nursing and Acting Deputy Chief Executive at Sheffield Children’s, said: “I’m delighted to announce I have been appointed to the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel, a position that I will take up following my retirement from the NHS.

“I have learned so much in the seven years I have been at the Trust and I am looking forward to joining the Panel and continuing to contribute to the safeguarding of children and young people following my retirement from the NHS this August.”

The Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel is an independent panel commissioning national reviews of serious child safeguarding cases. The aim is for national and local reviews to focus on improving learning, professional practice and outcomes for children. The panel is made up of ten professionals, appointed by the Secretary of State for Education. Sally will be the nursing representative on the panel.

Sally is a Registered Children’s Nurse with 42 years experience in the NHS, most recently as Chief Nurse and Acting Deputy Chief Executive at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. Her leadership experience spans acute, community and mental health services across South Yorkshire, the Midlands and East London. Sally was awarded an OBE for services to nursing in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2020.

Sally has previously served as a Fitness to Practice panellist with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and is currently an Executive Reviewer for the Care Quality Commission
