Paediatric Surgical Unit

operating theatre

In the Paediatric Surgical Unit (PSU) we see children up to 16 years old, and sometimes above, with a range of surgical problems or suspected disease.

Children can come to us from South Yorkshire and the surrounding area or from anywhere in the UK.

Our specialist services include:

  • neonatal surgery
  • oncological including haematological and vascular surgery
  • thoracic and upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery
  • lower gastrointestinal (GI) surgery
  • urology

A minimally invasive approach

PSU aims to offer a minimally invasive approach to as many surgical procedures as possible.

This approach is routinely offered for:

  • appendectomy
  • treatment of pyloric stenosis
  • tongue ties
  • treatment of lung and chest lesions
  • fundoplication
  • cholecystectomy
  • removal of kidneys and pyeloplasty
  • surgery for inflammatory bowel disease

We also provide antenatal counselling for suspected congenital anomalies.
