Ryegate House provides overnight short breaks for children and young people aged 0-19 with complex neuro-disabilities, multiple and profound physical and learning disabilities and life-limiting conditions.
We provide a home from home environment where a personalised approach is taken for the needs of each child or young person.
We welcome referrals from families, nursing staff, social workers, medical staff or any other professional that works with children.
Before making a referral you must have obtained consent from the child or young person if appropriate and their main carer.
All referrals for short breaks should be directed to Sheffield Children’s Commissioning Group.
Once a referral is received by the CCG they will advise our team and we will then contact the family to arrange an assessment of the child/young person’s health and nursing needs and the needs of the whole family. With the family’s consent we might also talk to other professionals who may have useful information such as social care, schools or other health professionals. We use this to determine eligibility for a stay at Ryegate House or to identify other services that may help the family.
Emergency stays are only available to children and young people who have already been assessed as eligible for respite care at Ryegate House.
Where we have availability we will aim to accommodate children and young people in the event of a family emergency for up to 48 hours. If care is needed beyond this then we would work together with the child, family and social care to develop a support plan for the family.
Any emergency stays are in addition to the allocation of respite care nights.
