Paediatric Liaison Service

Our Paediatric Liaison Service is based at five sites across Sheffield:

• Sheffield Children’s Hospital
• Jessop Wing
• Northern General Hospital
• Charles Clifford Dental Hospital
• Substance Misuse Services

We safeguard children and promote their wellbeing through effective two way communication between hospitals, adult substance misuse services, and health visitors and school nurses from Sheffield, the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw region, and nationally if required.

The Service provides early identification of vulnerable unborn babies, neonates, children and young people, promoting intervention and prevention through appropriate onward referral, as well as actively contributing to multi-agency assessment and discharge planning.

The Service also provides co-ordination for the Care of Next Infant (CONI) scheme. CONI is a support package for parents who have lost a previous baby to cot death while the CONI Plus scheme is for parents who have a close blood relative who has lost a baby to cot death and for parents whose baby is at risk of recurrent ALTEs (Apparent Life Threatening Events).
