Visits from a Health Visitor

Health Visiting involves health visitors and nursery nurses looking after children from birth to five years old and supporting their families. Every new baby is allocated a named health visitor as their parents’ point of contact.

Guided by the national Healthy Child Programme, families are offered five key contacts:

• antenatal contact (before your baby is born)
• new birth visit (between ten to fourteen days)
• six to eight week visit
• one year development review (between eight to twelve months)
• two year development review (between two to two and a half years)

Clinics and support groups

Our support is much more than five home visits. We are on hand to provide specialist support on a variety of issues such as feeding, sleeping, crying, toilet training and weaning.

We also work closely with other services in Sheffield to give families access to a range of clinics and groups in their local area including:

• baby clinics
• weaning groups
• toddler groups
• mum and baby groups
• baby massage classes
