Our Cystic Fibrosis Service sees children up to the age of 16 from Sheffield and beyond.
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is one of just 13 cystic fibrosis specialist centres in the UK.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic, multi-system disorder which results in progressive respiratory and gastrointestinal disease.
We see new babies identified through the newborn screening programme as well as assessing children thought to have cystic fibrosis.
We also see babies referred through the regional paediatric surgery with suspected or confirmed meconium ileus.
We help our patients manage their condition by teaching ways of clearance of their lungs of mucous and aggressively treating chest infections, in addition to maximising good nutrition.
We also help our patients to maintain independence, improve their quality of life and extend their life expectancy.
