Who is that smiley little boy?
Meet Theo, he’s two years old and loves nothing more than playing outside – except, maybe dinosaurs!
This time last year, Theo was recovering from a reversal of his temporary colostomy operation. This is when to one end of the colon is diverted through an opening in the tummy. The opening is called a stoma.
His mum, Jade said: “At four months old Theo had a stoma fitted as he had problems when passing stools.
“He also had an MRI scan to rule anything else out. This revealed a problem with Theo’s spinal cord for which he is under neurosurgery care and that he has horseshoe kidneys – which is when kidneys fuse together in the womb.”
When Theo was ten months old, he had a posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) operation. Once he recovered from this, Jade followed instructions from the hospital to help prevent scar tissue which could affect his recovery, for the next five months. Then, in January 2020, Theo had his operation to reverse his stoma.
Jade added: “Everything went extremely well, and I honestly can’t thank the Theatres team enough for saving my little boy’s life, especially Dr Basil Bekdash and Mr Suresh Murthi.
“The nurses on the ward were absolutely lovely too. Each time we spent a few days with them as Theo recovered from surgery and nothing was ever too much of an ask. They made me feel so welcome. All of Theo’s appointments will be at Sheffield Children’s as I would much rather travel from Lincolnshire knowing my son will get the best care.”
