Sheffield Children’s Hospital has been delighted to welcome some special guests this week. Both Olympic athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill and players from Sheffield Wednesday FC took some time to meet our patients and their families.

Jessica Ennis-Hill came to the hospital on Thursday 8 December and spent the morning visiting wards and Medical Daycare. As well as speaking to patients, she also signed autographs and gave the young people a chance to see her Olympic medals – both her gold from London 2012 and her silver medal from Rio 2016.

On Wednesday 7 December, the hospital was visited by Sheffield Wednesday FC’s Manager, Chairman and three players; Glenn Loovens, Jose Semedo and Daniel Pudil. They spent the afternoon meeting football fans, giving out signed calendars and meeting many requests for selfies from both patients and their parents.

Families were delighted to meet these special guests.

One mum said: “Jess Ennis, you made our Alfie’s morning thanks so much.”

Another said: “Oliver absolutely loved meeting the players and he loves Sheffield Wednesday!! Such a wonderful kind thing of the players to do – thank you so much.”
