Congratulations to our International Nurses’ Day DAISY Award winner for 2022

24 June 2022
Congratulations to Bee O’Shea, Paediatric Nurse Manager at our Clinical Research Facility, who was our International Nurses’ Day DAISY Award winner for 2022!

Bee has been part of the Sheffield Children’s team for almost 10 years, first working in our Emergency Department and then joining the Clinical Research Team two and a half years ago.

Bee was nominated by a parent for going out of her way to help their son take part in a new research trial for his recently diagnosed type 1 diabetes. The parent said: “Bee helped us greatly when we thought we would miss out on the trial and then became a great friend. She has gone out of her way over the last 18 months to make us feel relaxed and comfortable as our son gets used to his new life with diabetes.

“We have visited Sheffield Children’s for regular checks and trial tests and Bea has treated our son like her own. We all look forward to catching up with her and she brings in board games for him to play whilst here. She is always attentive and goes out of her way to help our son feel at home.

“Bee’s happy and friendly demeanour has meant many more participants have joined the research study and, as we approach the end of our trial, we do think we will miss Bee the most. We will of course stay in touch. She is a star!”

Bee was presented with her DAISY Award on International Nurses’ Day by Professor Sally Shearer, Executive Director of Nursing and Quality and Acting Deputy Chief Executive, and Jenny Longden, Deputy Director of Nursing.

Bee said: “Winning the Daisy Award was a complete surprise, but rather a lovely one. I felt overwhelmed to be nominated and honoured to receive it. I am honoured and grateful to be a children’s nurse and to work at Sheffield Children’s, with an amazing Research and multi-disciplinary team.

She added: “Research is so important and changes children’s lives. The Research department at Sheffield Children’s is dynamic, innovative, and expanding. Thank you to everyone who showed their love and respect for me in receiving it.”

Have you got a wonderful nurse in mind that you would like to celebrate? The DAISY Award is an ongoing award process and is your opportunity to say thank you to a nurse at Sheffield Children’s.
